Water Based Ink

The fundamental difference between typical ink and traditional solvent-based ink is that water (or water and very little cosolvent-alcohol substance) is used to replace the organic solvent in solvent-based ink to prepare water-based binder, which is compounded with pigment (pigment or dye), that is, special additives to make printing ink. At present, the industrialized products of ink are mainly acrylic ink and polyurethane ink.

1. Environmental protection   In the process of printing, the typical ink painting only emits water vapor, not any volatile organic compounds, the printing site and the surrounding environment, and is not polluted by toxic and harmful organic solvents, so it has excellent environmental protection performance.2. HealthOily ink contains about 70% organic solvents, mainly benzene, toluene, acetone, ethyl acetate, etc., and a large number of organic solvents (especially for surface printing, which is as high as 3-5 times the quality of ink) need to be added to dilute the ink. These organic solvents will bring great harm to the health of production personnel and the surrounding environment.In typical ink painting, there is only water in the binder, and there is no toxic and harmful organic solvent. In printed products, there will be no residual organic solvent.3. Security The safety of water-based ink is manifested in two aspects, one is fire safety, the other is food safety.The warehouses and production workshops where ink and wash are stored will not cause accidents such as burning and explosion due to the existence of flammable and explosive organic solvents.After oily ink is printed, the organic residual solvent in the ink will migrate and penetrate, polluting food. However, water-based ink does not contain organic residual solvent, and only acts on the surface of printed matter, and will not migrate to the inside of packaging and pollute food.

At present, developed countries and regions are striving to develop and use water-based inks to gradually replace solvent-based inks. Packaging printing with water-based ink printing as the main development object has formed a trend in the world. But in China, the application of water-based ink is not very popular, and there is still a considerable gap compared with developed countries.  Experts in the industry believe that in the next 3-5 years, the domestic market demand for offset printing ink, screen printing ink, flexographic printing ink and other products will show an upward trend, and with the strengthening of people's environmental awareness in China, water-based printing ink and other environmental protection inks will show a rapid growth momentum.
