Several factors affecting the drying effect of printed matter

Printing is the process of transferring the graphic information on the manuscript to the substrate by printing plate or other means, and it can also be understood as the replication process of transferring the coloring agent/pigment (such as ink) to the substrate by using analog or digital image carriers.

Printing Ink

1. Influence of exhaust system of printing machine on drying.
If the exhaust system is not smooth, the volatilized solvent will not be eliminated in time. The high concentration of solvent in the oven will hinder the further volatilization of solvent, thus affecting the drying effect of printed matter.
2. Influence of ink on drying
(1) The drying effect of Water Based Ink is closely related to the pH value of ink. Under the same conditions, when the pH value is too low, the drying speed of ink is accelerated; When the pH value is too high, the drying speed of ink is slow, and it is easy to get dirty on the back of printed matter.
(2) The evaporation speed of mixed solvents in Solvent Based Ink directly determines the drying performance of ink, and the evaporation speed of different components in mixed solvents is different. By mixing different kinds of solvents with different proportions, the solvent volatilization speed of ink can be easily adjusted, thus improving the drying performance.

3. Influence of printing speed on drying
Different printing speeds have different requirements for the performance of the drying system. In the case of high speed requirements, there are higher requirements for the heating distance and drying efficiency of the drying oven. If the supporting drying system can't fully volatilize the solvent, it is easy to cause the residual solvent to exceed the standard.
4. Influence of printing plate on drying
For gravure printing, the depth of the printing plate mesh has a great influence on the drying speed, for example, the mesh with a depth of 33μm and the mesh with a depth of 18μm, the drying time of the ink in the former is more than twice as long as that in the latter.

5. The influence of environmental conditions
Generally, when printing in a temperature environment below 20℃, the natural dryness of ink will be weakened. When printing in the environment above 30℃, the natural drying of ink tends to accelerate.
The influence of high air humidity on drying: first, the moisture in the air enters the ink, causing the comprehensive volatility of the solvent to deteriorate; Second, the existence of a large amount of water in the air will inhibit the volatilization of solvents.
