Eight technological methods of glass screen printing

Screen printing refers to the technology of decorative printing on glass products by using screen printing plate and glass printing material. This is an important process for making decorative glass. Nowadays, there are eight processes for glass screen printing.

1, Glass etching screen printing
The traditional etching decoration method of glass products is to coat wax layer and other reinforcing materials on the surface of glass as an anti-corrosion layer, and then carve patterns on the coating with a needle and a knife to expose the glass surface. This process is very time-consuming and inefficient, but some manufacturers are still using it.
Today's glass etching screen printing process makes etching easier, saving time and effort. There are two kinds of silk screen etching processes:
(1) Hot printing. The hot printing method of glass screen printing etching is to prepare an anti-corrosion printing material by adding a small amount of anti-corrosion powder into an adhesive prepared by paraffin, asphalt, stearic acid, etc. Through hot screen printing, the printing material is scraped onto the glass surface according to the design pattern to form an anti-corrosion film. The part of the resist film where the glass is exposed is the pattern to be etched. The etching is carried out with chlorofluorinated acid, and after etching, the corrosion-resistant layer printed on the glass should be washed off with boiling water. Hot printing is suitable for etching patterns of two-way continuous and four-way continuous patterns.

(2) Cold printing. Glass screen printing etching can also be carried out by cold printing. Anti-corrosion printing materials can use special asphalt paint and anti-corrosion powder, or buy commercially available anti-corrosion ink. After printing, the resist film is completely dried. Cold printing is suitable for etching individual patterns.
2, glass ice pattern silk screen printing

Ice flower, commonly known as orange peel, is actually a very small glass particle with low melting point. This kind of tiny glass particles contains high lead content, including color and colorless, and the hue of color is red, yellow, blue, green, white, etc., and intermediate tones can also be prepared. Screen-printed ice flower decoration is elegant and generous, and is mostly used for architectural glass decoration and arts and crafts glass decoration, such as the decoration of high-grade glassware and lamps.
A silk-screen printing method for glass icing decoration is to screen-print a colored or colorless glass flux layer (flux) on the surface of glass, then sprinkle icing glass particles on this glass flux layer, and sinter at 500-590℃ to make the flux layer and icing particle layer on the glass surface co-melt to produce relief effect. For example, the colored flux is silk-printed on the glass, while the tiny ice flakes are transparent. By high-temperature co-melting, the flux layer in the glass ice flakes will fade, and a colored and raised transparent relief pattern will be formed on the glass surface.
3, glass frosting screen printing

rubber covered roller

Frosting is a decorative in which glass glaze powder with a certain size is adhered to the glass, and the glass glaze coating is melted on the glass surface after baking at a high temperature of 580℃-600℃, and shows a different color from the glass body. Adhesion of glass glaze powder can be done by brush strokes or roller coating.
Through screen printing, the hollowed-out pattern of frosted surface can be obtained. The method is to screen print a layer of patterns formed by frosted screen printing flux on the surface of glass products. The flux inhibitor is composed of ferric oxide, talcum powder, clay and other ingredients. It is ground with a ball mill, with a fineness of 350 meshes (meaning that there are 350 meshes with uniform size within a distance of 25.4 mm in one inch), and mixed with an adhesive before screen printing.
After the printed patterns are air-dried, they are frosted. Then, after high temperature baking, the frosted surface where there is no pattern is melted on the glass surface, while the frosted surface where the pattern is silk-printed cannot be melted on the glass surface due to the effect of flux blocking agent. After baking, the transparent hollowed-out pattern will appear through the translucent sand surface, forming a special decorative effect.
4. Screen printing ion exchange coloring for glass
The principle of this method is that colored glass can be obtained by exchanging silver with sodium ions in glass, and then reducing it into metal colloid. On the transparent glass plate, only the part to be colored is printed with Screen Printing Ink containing silver ions. After firing and cleaning, only the printed part changes from yellow to brown. The screen Printing Ink for this decorative process is mostly composed of silver carbonate, copper sulfate (burnt powder), iron dioxide, talcum powder, etc., with a small amount of zinc powder as catalyst.
Different firing conditions will change the color tone and concentration. Because there is no reflection difference between the uncolored part and the colored part, there is no unnatural feeling at all, just like melting and coloring glass. The coloring of the characters and marks on the glass, the anti-heat treatment of the rear window glass of the car, and the brown color of the scale used in the comparative experiment are obtained in this way.
5, Glass contact control panel screen printing

Glass switch panel

Nowadays, the switch combined with microcomputer is used when designing the temperature adjustment or switch program of microwave oven and other electrical appliances. This kind of switch is different from the usual mechanical switch, which is printed on the glass panel. It has no moving parts and no convex and concave. It is very smooth and easy to decontaminate, and it can be controlled by touching it with hands.
The surface of this control panel is covered with a conductive film, and the surrounding area is decorated and displayed with screen-printed ceramic ink. Its advantages are mechanical wear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and easy decontamination. In addition, in order to color the glass, organic paint can be printed on the back. Because the back can't be in direct contact, it has strong durability and a large choice of ink.
6, The glass surface extinction screen printing
This method is to print the matte ink on the glass surface on the soda-lime glass with a screen printing plate, and then wash it with water for a few minutes, and the effect is like that of brown glass. Usually, fluoric acid is used to etch glass, which is dangerous to some extent. This ink does not contain strong acid, and its operation is simple, and its extinction effect is similar to that of etching.
7, electrothermal demisting line screen printing
In order to prevent automobile rear window glass from condensing water vapor, electrothermal defogging lines are used more and more. This silk screen printing method is to paint silver paste into lines on smooth glass, and fire the glass while bending it. When the rear window is foggy, the lines will be heated by current, which will increase the temperature of the glass surface and remove water vapor.
When this kind of electric defogging device is powered on, some cars do not use manual switch, but automatically power on and off. The sensor of this automatic device is to screen print serrated electrodes on thin glass, and then cover it with a layer of humidity sensor, and automatically control the power on and off by using the change of humidity.

8. Screen printing of liquid crystal display module

LCD Module

The liquid crystal digital display module is made by sealing the periphery of two thin glass sheets with an interval of about 10 microns, injecting liquid crystal and sealing the injection port. The screen printing method is to screen print transparent conductive strands in the shape of "8" on the surfaces of these two pieces of glass. This "8" is composed of seven parts, which can partially increase the voltage to display the corresponding numbers. The process of making this figure-8 pattern is as follows: firstly, on the glass with the whole electrically conductive strand, only the figure-8 portion is screen printed with acid-resistant ink, and then the unprinted conductive strand is removed by acid etching.
